Other 98% Lab is a nonprofit organization dedicated to incubating and elevating bold solutions from the front lines of global fights for justice.
Projects
Deep Blue Drawdown Initiative
We’re helping facilitate a bold solution to one of our planet’s most important challenges: drawing down atmospheric carbon dioxide by sinking kelp, Earth’s fastest growing lifeform, in the deep ocean. We’re partnering with Indigenous Alaskan kelp farmers to create cutting edge “Kelp-Tech” (smart buoys, saildrones, portable kelp nurseries, etc.) to maximize their yields for both Food Sovereignty and carbon sequestration.
Other 98% Action
Our sister organization, Other 98% Action, is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit founded on the belief that winning the battle of the story means meaning the war. O98 Action has mastered the art of “meme warfare,” using social media to tell critical stories in ways that move people to action.
Mosquito Fleet PDX
The Mosquito Fleet is a scrappy network of paddlers, boaters, and community activists fighting for climate justice and a fossil-free Pacific Northwest through trainings, creative on-water direct action and grassroots movement building. They provide kayaktivism trainings, campaign support and a community space on the waterways of NE Portland. We helped found Mosquito Fleet as part of our work on what ultimately became the historic “Shell No!” movement against Arctic drilling in 2015, and continue to serve as the group’s fiscal sponsor today.
